A New Take On The Homestead
How about some bookmark love? ::

For one man a home is his castle, but in this case it is also a small municipality. For Mr. Mike Haeg, that is exactly what he has done. He has declared his home and yard, the boundaries of his property as a town known as Mt. Holly. Mt. Holly resides near Minnepolis, MN, as this
Google Map shows.
Mr. Haeg serves not only as the Mayor, but also as the chamber of commerce, justice of the peace, and town drunk.
It seems that Mt. Holly is recognized by the United States Post Office, the Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicles, and a handful of other official entities.
Mt. Holly has it's own Newspaper.

The newspaper proudly boasts a 0% rate of illiteracy.
I wonder if Mt. Holly is in Teresa Boardman's area of service. This raises a huge question, that if the mayor of Mt. Holly was ever to sell the town, how would it be listed in the twin cities MLS? Would the whole town in fact be sold at the time of the house and surrounding land? It is an interesting look at property rights.
Related to Mt. Holly, but perhaps more dramatic, is the entity off of the coast of England known as Sealand. Sealand claims not just to be it's own town, but it is its own country including having it's own currency. Sealand can also handle one thing that Mt. Holly cannot, and that is incoming and outgoing air and boat traffic.
